We are thrilled to announce the 2024 Australian UD Extra Mile Challenge finalist is Matt Modra, Owner Driver of MA & RC Modra and a valued South Central Truck & Bus customer!
Based here in Adelaide, Matt performed impressively throughout the three week Challenge. He excelled across all competition criteria including Fuel Efficiency, Idling, Manual Mode and Power Mode.
Matt will now go on to represent Australia in the October Global Final at the home of UD Trucks in Japan, at UD’s Ageo Experience Centre. He will be accompanied by Bill Smith, South Central Truck & Bus Sales Executive and coached by his Key Driver Trainer, Pat Ryan.
Matt has been in the Transport Industry for 22 years and we have proudly worked with him over the last nine years, initially with our aftermarket team for service and repair work before working with our whole team from 2019. He works as a subcontractor in the distribution of structural building materials and is currently contracting to APEX Steel.
Currently, Matt proudly operates a Quon GK 17 420 prime mover which was purchased new from South Central Truck & Bus in 2020. This tidy unit includes a front mounted crane for the delivery of Colourbond roofing steel a structural steel.
Matt, along with other participating drivers, have expressed their gratitude in being able to compete in this year's UD Extra Mile Challenge. All drivers involved have recognised the significant personal, operational and cost saving benefits it has delivered to their businesses thanks to Pat Ryan's expert Driver Development Training and engagement throughout the competition.
We know that Matt is absolutely thrilled to be heading to the final later this year, and our team is equally excited to see him make South Central truck & Bus and UD Trucks Australia proud!

UD Extra Mile Challenge
The UD Extra Mile Challenge is UD Trucks’ global driver competition. It uniquely simulates a transport cycle – pre-inspection, fuel efficient and safety driving, parking skills – linking driver skills to business reality.
However, the UD Extra Mile Challenge is not only about technical ability. The focus is as much on mind set. The competition encourages drivers to think more commercially by highlighting the trade-offs between speed, delivery time, fuel efficiency, safety and smooth driving.
There are qualification rounds held in each local market, and the best driver selected in each market will qualify for the Global Final at the UD Experience Center in Ageo, Japan. It is here that finalists compete to find out who is the ultimate driver.
The UD Extra Mile Challenge serves as a symbol for UD Trucks’ going the extra mile for customer success and commitment to support all aspects of smart logistics.
