From 1 January 2017, all heavy vehicles and trailers with a Gross Vehicles Mass (GVM) or Aggregate Trailer Mass (ATM) over 4.5 tonnes which are three (3) years of age and over from date of manufacture need to be inspected prior to the vehicle being registered in the new vehicle owner’s name for registration in South Australia.
This includes vehicles in the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) Maintenance Accreditation Scheme but excludes buses and special purpose vehicles such as tractors, agricultural and road making equipment.
Inspections must be carried out by an authorised heavy vehicle inspector.
South Central Trucks has been authorised by the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure as an authorised heavy vehicle inspection station.
Defected vehicles must have the defect removed by DPTI / SAPOL before a change of ownership inspection can be carried out
All non-SA registered vehicles must have an ID inspection conducted by DPTI / SAPOL prior to change of ownership inspection.
